“I need a Ford key” is never one job
An older Fiesta with a conventional ignition, a newer Puma with push-button start and a Transit that can’t miss a day of work all arrive as “I need a Ford key” — but they’re three different jobs. Ford’s range runs from bladed remote keys through to keyless proximity fobs, all built around Ford’s PATS immobiliser concept (the security chip the car checks before it will start). Which generation you have changes the key hardware, the programming route and the price — which is why the registration is the first thing we ask for.
One honest rule before any of it: we don’t claim every vehicle can be programmed just because a tool lists the manufacturer. Different generations of the same make can use completely different security systems, so we confirm your exact vehicle from the registration before travelling — if it’s not a job we’re equipped for, we say so on the phone, not on your driveway.
The models we see week in, week out
Fiesta and Focus dominate the everyday work — worn keys, snapped blades, tired remotes and lost-key rescues. Puma and Kuga bring the newer keyless questions: “Key Not Detected” messages and flat-fob mornings. And Transit, Transit Custom and Transit Connect are their own world: spare keys for crews, lost keys at yards, and the security hardware that keeps tools where you left them. If your Ford isn’t named here, ring anyway — the list is what’s common, not what’s possible.
Which Ford job is yours?
- Want a spare while a key still works? The cheap, sensible option — spare keys from £70
- Every key gone? Different process, still at your door — replacement & all-keys-lost
- Keys visible inside the car? Damage-free entry
- Buttons dead, or “Key Not Detected”? Fob diagnosis and repair before anyone sells you a new key
- Key won’t turn in an older Ford? Ignition wear diagnosis
Ford key questions, answered straight
Can you replace Ford keys when every key is lost?
On many Ford models, yes — all-keys-lost work is a normal part of the job. We confirm your exact vehicle and its security system from the registration before travelling, then cut and program the replacement at the vehicle.
Do you do Transit and Transit Custom keys?
Yes — Ford vans are a big part of our work, from spare keys to lost-key emergencies at yards and roadsides, and we fit van security hardware too. A van off the road is a day's pay gone, so vans get priority treatment.
My Ford starts but the remote buttons do nothing — new key?
Often not. On many Fords that pattern points at the remote side of the key rather than the immobiliser chip — sometimes a battery or contact issue, sometimes worn buttons, sometimes a resync. We diagnose which before anyone pays for a full replacement.
What should I have ready when I ring about a Ford key?
The registration, where the vehicle is, whether any working key exists and what the key or car is doing. Fords span everything from bladed remotes to keyless fobs, so those details let us quote one fixed number honestly.
